Increase in Wickedness

Because of the increase of wickedness,

Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

You may have seen it in your email: a message has been circulating cyberspace the last several weeks, warning parents about a new drug targeted at kids with a candy-like look and taste. It’s called Strawberry Quick.

“Is it real, or is it a hoax, or what is it,” our Jeff Kulikowsky asked C-NS High School Resource Officer Deputy Mike Walton Tuesday.

“It’s real,” Walton said. “It’s something that’s been mainly found out in the Midwest and western states.”

“Strawberry Quick” is a form of crystal meth. It looks like the candy “Pop Rocks,” and often comes with a pink or purple coloring, and does smell and taste like strawberry, which is where it gets its name from.

“It’s more the trend of getting the newer user, whether it’s a late teenager or young adult, to try the drug without the bad taste involved in it, versus they’re pedaling it to the 5th, 6th, the 7th grader that’s on the playground,” Walton said.

What Walton and other area high school resource officers say is that it hasn’t made its way into Central New York yet. But he says it never hurts for parents and school officials to be aware of things like this.

“It’s never going to hurt anyone to be more informed and to be a little proactive on it versus having to react after the fact you find out your kid was actually doing it. And it does open the door for other drugs to talk to your kids about it, to make sure there’s an open line of communication so they know they can talk to you about it,” Walton said.   Link
