The UN: World Parliament of Peace
Mr. President, thank you very much. Mr. Secretary General, distinguished delegates to the United Nations, it is really a great privilege to greet you todays as we begin what marks a new and historic session of the General Assembly. My congratulations to the Honorable Guido de Marco on your election, sir, as president of the General Assembly. And, on a personal note, I want to say that - having witnessed the unprecedented unity and cooperation of the past 2 months - I have never been prouder to have once served within your ranks and never been prouder that the United States is the host country for the United Nations.
Stassen's Parliament
Monday, Jan. 18, 1943
"It is my proposal that we should contemplate, and begin to plan now, for a definite continuing organization of the United Nations of the World. China, Russia, the British Commonwealth of Nations, the United States of America, and all of the smaller United Nations should participate in this governmental structure. On this basis the citizens in this room, the citizens of this state in the years ahead would be not only citizens of Minnesota, not only citizens of the United States of America, but also citizens of the United Nations of the World.
"The key governmental device should be a single-house parliament. . . . The representatives in the parliament would be selected in each nation in accordance with the means by which the people select the members of their own legislative body."

H.E. Father Miguel d’Escoto Brockmann, M.M.
President of the 63rd session of the United Nations General Assembly
H.E. Father Miguel d’Escoto Brockmann, M.M., was elected President of the sixty-third session of the United Nations General Assembly on 4 June 2008.
A veteran statesman, politician, community leader and priest, Father d’Escoto served for over a decade as the Republic of Nicaragua’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, a post he held from July 1979 until April 1990. During his tenure, he played a key role in the Contadora and Esquipulas peace processes to end internal armed conflicts in Central America in the 1980s. Also at that time, he spearheaded his Government’s decision, in 1984, to bring to the International Court of Justice a claim against the United States for supporting military and paramilitary actions against his country, with the Court subsequently ruling in favour of Nicaragua.
Father d’Escoto is currently Senior Adviser on Foreign Affairs, with the rank of Minister, to President Daniel Ortega Saavedra, a post which he has held since 2007. He also chairs Nicaragua’s National Committee on Water, in which capacity he plays a leading role in efforts to conserve Lake Cocibolca, the largest source of water in Mesoamerica. He is a member of the Sandinista National Council and the Political Commission, the highest governing body of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN).
Ordained a priest of the Maryknoll Missionaries in the early 1960s, Father d’Escoto has travelled extensively, visiting most of the world’s capitals, as well as many remote and less accessible areas of the globe, and has dedicated much of his life to helping the poor. more
Plans for Gulf monetary union on track
Dubai: The Gulf states are moving ahead with plans for Gulf monetary union as the final draft has been approved, according to an economist at Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).
The Central Bank governors of five Gulf States are still deliberating on the timeline after a meeting in Jeddah on Tuesday but Fabio Scacciavillani, economist at DIFC believes that they will meet the Monetary Union January 2010 deadline.
"In the last two to three months, the mood has switched dramatically to a state of readiness and they are on track to meet the deadline," Scacciavillani said, adding that over the past few days, "there has been a determined effort to get this project to full completion in the shortest possible time." more

At the UN, leaders call for new rules for global markets
"Although he did not ask for action by other countries, several speakers at the General Assembly's annual fall debate insisted that a new multilateral forum overhaul the global financial system".
"French President Nicolas Sarkozy proposed that the Group of 8, which includes the United States and many of its wealthy allies, take up the task at a special summit in November, with the added presence of China and other developing nations."

World needs a real parliament in UN
Most people understand, as British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Pope Benedict have recently observed, that global problems require global solutions. For this to happen, we require two things: a change in our consciousness so that we recognize that the earth’s resources are finite; and more effective international institutions that can keep us from destroying one another and the environment.

Recession is the birth pangs of a new global order, says Brown
Gordon Brown has insisted that the recession was just the 'difficult birth pangs of a new global order'.
Chorus Call for New World Order
In economic and financial desperation, leaders around the globe are openly calling for the creation of a "New World Order," including prominent "old guard" members of the Trilateral Commission. Is the baby about to be born? more

Gordon Brown appeals to UN for financial regulation body
Gordon Brown's UN speech calls on leaders to back his plan for an international financial body to regulate chaotic markets.
Gordon Brown appealed for world leaders to back the idea of an international supervisory body to bring order to the chaotic markets in a speech to the UN general assembly in New York yesterday.
He made his appeal, part of a long campaign to win support for more effective regulation of global capitalism, before heading to the political turmoil of Washington and a hastily arranged meeting with the US president, George Bush.
Crisis boosts urge to regulate in Europe
The crisis has put new momentum behind measures to be unveiled by the European Commission on Oct. 1 that include plans to strengthen rules on the capital that banks must hold back and the way credit rating agencies are overseen. Other measures being pushed by some European leaders in response to the crisis include bans on short selling of securities and tighter controls on executive compensation.more

A new international agenda
A new concept is emerging for addressing the crisis at the national and international levels. The steps now being contemplated seem better suited to the needs of a global world than the previous approach, based on the hope that the market will eventually take care of itself.
If current ideas for reforming the world's financial and economic institutions are consistently implemented, that would suggest we are finally beginning to understand the importance of global governance. Such governance would render the economy more rational and more humane. more

Turkey's Gul anticipates 'new world order'
Turkish President Abdullah Gul predicted ""a new world order"" of joint international action, in an interview published in Britain Sturday.
He added that the conflict in Georgia shows the United States can no longer shape global politics on its own, and that it should start sharing power with other nations. "I don't think you can control all the world from one centre,"" Gul told the Guardian newspaper in an interview. "There are big nations. There are huge populations. There is unbelievable economic development in some parts of the world."" "So what we have to do is, instead of unilateral actions, act all together, make common decisions and have consultations with the world. A new world order, if I can say it, should emerge." more

UK's Brown: Now is the time
to build global society
The international financial crisis has given world leaders a unique opportunity to create a truly global society, Britain's Prime Minister Gordon Brown will say in a keynote foreign policy speech on Monday. "The alliance between Britain and the U.S. -- and more broadly between Europe and the U.S. -- can and must provide leadership, not in order to make the rules ourselves, but to lead the global effort to build a stronger and more just international order," an excerpt from the speech says. more

President Proposes Single Currency
Jakarta:President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has proposed the use of one single global currency to prevent pressures on currencies, in particularly the rupiah, when economic crisis hits. This can at least maintain the stability of currency rates in each country and protect it against pressures of other currencies.
The president maintains that with a single global currency rate, there would no longer be a currency exchange crisis and money would not be commercialized. With a single currency, the function of money as a trading value will not change. “It could be done in stages, starting with the dollar, euro, or Asian currency,” more
A Very Real New World Order
It is hard to believe, but a majority of Americans (including Christians and conservatives) seem oblivious to the fact that there is a very real, very legitimate New World Order (NWO) unfolding. In the face of overwhelming evidence, most Americans not only seem totally unaware of this reality, they seem unwilling to even remotely entertain the notion.
On one hand, it is understandable that so many Americans would be ignorant of the emerging New World Order. After all, the mainstream media refuses to report, or even acknowledge, the NWO. Even "conservative" commentators and talk show hosts such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, or Joe Scarborough refuse to discuss it. And when listeners call these respective programs, these "conservative" hosts usually resort to insulting the caller as being some kind of "conspiracy kook." One host even railed that if anyone questions the government line on 9/11, we should "lock them up and throw away the key." So much for freedom of speech!
This is an area--perhaps the central area--where liberals and conservatives agree: they both show no patience or tolerance for anyone who believes that global government (in any form) is evolving. One has to wonder how otherwise intelligent and thoughtful people can be so brain dead when it comes to this issue. It makes one wonder who is really pulling their strings, doesn't it? more

Free Speech is Threatened Worldwide
In recent years - and in particular since 9/11 - freedom of speech has been shrinking throughout the world. This is true not only in countries where this most basic freedom has been tenuous at best, but increasingly where it was first conceived and long enshrined: Europe, the United States and other countries where Western ideas of liberty have taken root.
It is time to confront and reverse the forces, both internal and external, that are now arrayed against free speech, time to organize not just locally and nationally, but also globally in recognition of the common danger imperiling all free societies. The sole purpose of The International Free Press Society (IFPS) is to defend freedom of expression wherever and by whomever it is threatened. more
United Nations forbids defaming religion, specifically Islam
On Inauguration Day, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, in a New York Times ad ("An Invitation to a New Partnership"), told "Dear President OBAMA" that Muslims "have compelling strategic and moral reasons to cooperate and peacefully co-exist with the United States in particular, and with the West in general."
Many Muslims here and elsewhere want that partnership; but some, jihadists in the name of Islam, disagree violently. In its address to our new president, the Organization of the Islamic Conference (which has permanent status at the United Nations) made no mention of its own strategic skills that resulted, on Dec. 18, in the passage by the U.N. General Assembly of a nonbinding resolution (with strong advice to its members) that condemns "defamation of religion," especially Islam. more

Stiglitz Calls for Global Solution to Crisis
According to Robert Zoellick, the head of the World Bank, the only solution to this problem is to foster close cooperation between industrialized countries, international financial institutions and private companies. "The global crisis demands a global solution,"
"The UN is the only institution that can push through the necessary measures," Stiglitz said. He also suggested that the United Nations and a world economic council, such as the one Chancellor Angela Merkel proposed in early February at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos to be an economic analogue to the UN Security Council, should help engineer a global financial system. more

Barack Obama's New World Order
Obama has made clear that the U.S. is but one actor in a global community. Talk of American economic supremacy has been replaced by a call from Obama for more growth in developing countries. Claims of American military supremacy have been replaced with heavy emphasis on cooperation and diplomatic hard labor...... U.S. should have a greater respect for Europe. "In America, there's a failure to appreciate Europe's leading role in the world," source
