SHOWING YOU THE WORLD IN SCRIPTURE

This coming month will see that rare occasion when the Blessing Over the Sun is recited.

Jewish Law stipulates that a special blessing is to be recited when we see the sun at the same place, on the same day of the week, and the same time of day as when it was created.  The first chapter in Genesis, which tells the story of Creation, tells us that the sun was created on a Wednesday.  Precisely one solar year, or 365.25 days (52 weeks and 1.25 days) later, the sun was in the same place – but not on the same day of the week, nor at the same time of day; it was rather but rather a quarter of a day later.

The “quarter-day” problem is solved every four years, and the “same day of the week” issue is resolved every seven years – and both problems are solved simultaneously only once every 28 (4x7) years.

This year marks the culmination of a 28-year-cycle since Creation (5769-1= 5768 = 28x206). Thus, four weeks from now, on Wednesday, April. 8, 2009  the vernal equinox, the sun will be in the same position, on the same day of the week and the same approximate hour, as it was when it was created.  This “starting position” actually occurs the previous evening, but we recite the blessing over the sun to mark this anniversary only when it is visible – that is, the next morning.

The special blessing  - – “Blessed are You… Who fashions the work of Creation” - commemorates the vast greatness of G-d’s Creation.  source
The Blessing of the Sun is occurring this year on the 14th of Nisan 5769 (Nissan is the Month of Redemption).  The Blessing of the Sun or Birkat Ha Chamah as it is known in Hebrew, is a little known Jewish holiday which occurs only once every 28 years. It is to commemorate the creation of the sun on the fourth day of creation.   Birchat HaChama will not be recited on the Eve of Passover ever again.  That makes this particular blessing quite unique!
Genesis1:16-19   And God made the two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night and the stars. And God placed them in the sky of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from darkness; and God saw that it was good. And it was evening and it was morning, a fourth day.
Some internet sources quote the following:

The first time the blessing of the sun return happened was on the Eve of Passover (14 Nisan) was when Moses led the Jewish people out of Egypt and all their enemies perished as they were freed from slavery and guided miraculously across the parted sea!!

The second time, recorded in the book of Esther “and that night, the king's sleep was disturbed", Esther 6:1 it is known that the blessing of the sun occurred on a Wednesday, 14 Nisan was when the decree to kill the Jews was annulled, and all their enemies perished.  It was after this great miracle that King Darius of Persia  helped the Jews return to the land of Israel to build the second Temple in 454BC.

This time will be the twelveth time it has ever happened on this date and the last ever.  The last time the Birchat HaChama was recited was on Erev Pesach 1925/5685, 84 years ago.  However, before 1925/ 5685, there was a gap of more than six centuries since Birkat haChammah’s last previous occurrence on an erev Pesach in 5069 (1309).

The  Blessing of the Sun is  Pagan Sun/Baal Worship!

The Babylonian Talmudic ceremony of Blessing the Sun, says the Jewish Encyclopedia (1905) occurs “on the first Wednesday of Nisan every twenty-eight years … This is calculated by the calendar of Samuel Yarbina’ah, which allots to the solar year 365¼ days, and asserts that each of the seven planets rules over one hour of the day in the following sequence: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury, and the Moon … the blessing is concluded with ‘Alenu’ and ‘Kaddish Yatom.’

The Babylonian Talmud is Judaism's holiest book (actually a collection of books). Its authority takes precedence over the Old Testament in Judaism. Evidence of this may be found in the Talmud itself, Erubin 21b (Soncino edition): "My son, be more careful in the observance of the words of the Scribes than in the words of the Torah (Old Testament)."

The Jewish Scribes claim the Talmud is partly a collection of traditions Moses gave them in oral form. These had not yet been written down in Jesus' time.  Christ condemned the traditions of the Mishnah (early Talmud) and those who taught it (Scribes and Pharisees), because the Talmud nullifies the teachings of the Holy Bible.

The Noahides keep to the teachings of the Babylonian Talmud.
Uprooting Idolatry and Reaffirming Monotheism

It is apparent that there was a special impetus behind the legislation of this blessing. The quintessential doctrine of Judaism, the belief in One God, has its corollary, the negation of all forms of idolatry, pagan or otherwise. In this context, the idolatrous obsession with the sun and other heavenly bodies was, historically speaking, a constant source of consternation for Judaism.

From Abraham to Isaiah and from Moses to Jeremiah, the sun, moon and stars served as a tangible proof for the existence of the Supreme Being. The celestial bodies and their movements beckon the observer to
acknowledge the existence of G-d; in the words of Isaiah (40:26): “Raise your eyes on high and see Who created these! He brings forth their legions by number; He calls to each of them by name.”

Yet the very same luminaries were misused to detract from the unity of God and to pave the way to paganism. As Rambam in his famous “anthropology” of idolatry (Hilchot Avodah Zarah, Chapter One) explains, the evolution from man’s belief in the Creator of all to widespread pagan idolatry was incremental. There was a gradual process of degeneration that commenced with the perverse notion that since the sun, moon, stars and constellations serve as media through which God illuminates and sustains the world it is appropriate to hold them in esteem and pay homage to them as well.

Ultimately the ancient pagans deserted the worship of God in favor of these more tangible elements (and their man-made representatives) that they considered worthy of worship. Thus we see that from the very inception of the idolatrous enterprise, sun worship played an important role. Scripture, in its numerous references to the sun the moon and the stars as the objects of worship, likewise underscores the popularity and tenacity of sunrelated worship in the paganism of antiquity.  Nor did the Jewish People remain immune to this crude form of worship. The damning rebukes of the prophets (see particularly Jeremiah 44) against the abomination of sun worship are the most reliable testimony to the predominance of such abhorrent practices.  The chilling account of Ezekiel (Ezekiel 8:16), describing sun worship in the Temple itself, underscores how even the highest echelons of Jewish society were vulnerable to this pernicious scourge.

Arguably, Birkat Hachamah was partly instituted to counteract these false notions and to reassert that the sun, like all other heavenly bodies, is nothing more than an “axe in the hand of the woodchopper”—an implement through which God gives us warmth, light, and vitality.

Birkat Hachamah is therefore a declaration of our firm belief that all the hosts of the heavens have no independence or autonomy from God whatsoever; the sun, as indeed the moon and the stars, are nothingother than God’s gifts to mankind, and it is to Him that we express our thanks and articulate our gratitude.

Although sun worship is no longer in vogue, Birkat Hachamah continues to resonate with meaning.  It is axiomatic to Judaism that while God is the sole source of all success and affluence, a person may not rely on miracles. One is obliged to engage in work in order to earn a livelihood, and one may not abstain from such endeavors, relying instead on Providence. source
The Blessing

The Blessing of the Sun is recited facing east.

Praise the L-rd. Praise the L-rd from the heavens; praise Him in the celestial heights. Praise Him, all His angels; praise Him, all His hosts. Praise Him, sun and moon; praise Him, all the shining stars. Praise Him, heaven of heavens, and the waters that are above the heavens. Let them praise the Name of the L-rd, for He commanded and they were created. He has established them forever, for all time; He issued a decree, and it shall not be transgressed.

Place your feet together and glance once at the sun before reciting the following blessing.

Once the blessing is begun, do not look at the sun at all.

Blessed are You, L-rd our G‑d, King of the universe, who re-enacts the work of Creation.

Blessed are You, L-rd our G‑d, King of the universe, who has granted us life, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this occasion.

For the Choirmaster; a Psalm by David. The heavens recount the glory of the Almighty; the sky proclaims His handiwork. Day to day speech streams forth; night to night expresses knowledge. There is no utterance, there are no words; their voice is inaudible. Their arc extends throughout the world; their message to the end of the earth. He set in them [in the heavens] a tent for the sun which is like a groom coming forth from his bridal canopy, like a strong man rejoicing to run the course. Its rising is at one end of the heavens, and its orbit encompasses the other ends; nothing is hidden from its heat. The Torah of the L-rd is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of the L-rd is trustworthy, making wise the simpleton. The precepts of the L-rd are just, rejoicing the heart; the mitzvah of the L-rd is clear, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the L-rd is pure, abiding forever; the judgments of the L-rd are true, they are all righteous together. They are more desirable than gold, than much fine gold; sweeter than honey or the drippings of the honeycomb. Indeed, Your servant is scrupulous with them; in observing them there is abundant reward. Yet, who can discern inadvertent wrongs? Purge me of hidden sins. Also, hold back Your servant from willful sins; let them not prevail over me; then I will be unblemished and keep myself clean of gross transgression. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You, L-rd, my Strength and my Redeemer.

A song of ascents. I lift my eyes to the mountains—from where will my help come? My help will come from the L-rd, Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot falter; your guardian does not slumber. Indeed, the Guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. The L-rd is your guardian; the L-rd is your protective shade at your right hand. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The L-rd will guard you from all evil; He will guard your soul. The L-rd will guard your going and coming from now and for all time.

Praise the L-rd. Praise G‑d in His holiness; praise Him in the firmament of His strength. Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His abundant greatness. Praise Him with the call of the shofar; praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and flute. Praise Him with resounding cymbals; praise Him with clanging cymbals. Let every being that has a soul praise the L-rd. Praise the L-rd.

Our Rabbis taught: One who sees the sun at its turning point, should say, "Blessed be He who re-enacts the [work of] creation." When is this? Abbaye said: Every twenty-eight years, when the cycle begins again, and the Nissan [spring] equinox falls in Saturn, on the evening of Tuesday, going into Wednesday.

For the Choirmaster; a song with instrumental music; a Psalm. May G‑d be gracious to us and bless us, may He make His countenance shine upon us forever, that Your way be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations. The nations will extol You, O G‑d; all the nations will extol You. The nations will rejoice and sing for joy, for You will judge the peoples justly and guide the nations on earth forever. The peoples will extol You, O G‑d; all the peoples will extol You, for the earth will have yielded its produce, and G‑d, our G‑d, will bless us. G‑d will bless us; and all, from the farthest corners of the earth, shall fear Him.

It is incumbent upon us to praise the Master of all things, to exalt the Creator of all existence, that He has not made us like the nations of the world, nor caused us to be like the families of the earth; that He has not assigned us a portion like theirs, nor a lot like that of all their multitudes, for they bow to vanity and nothingness. But we bend the knee, bow down, and offer praise before the supreme King of kings, the Holy One, blessed be He, who stretches forth the heavens and establishes the earth, the seat of whose glory is in the heavens above, and the abode of whose majesty is in the loftiest heights. He is our G‑d; there is none else. Truly, He is our King; there is nothing besides Him, as it is written in His Torah: Know this day and take unto your heart that the L-rd is G‑d; in the heavens above and upon the earth below there is nothing else.

And therefore we hope to You, L-rd our G‑d, that we may speedily behold the splendor of Your might, to banish idolatry from the earth—and false G‑ds will be utterly destroyed; to perfect the world under the sovereignty of the Almighty. All mankind shall invoke Your Name, to turn to You all the wicked of the earth. Then all the inhabitants of the world will recognize and know that every knee should bend to You, every tongue should swear [by Your Name]. Before You, L-rd our G‑d, they will bow and prostrate themselves, and give honor to the glory of Your Name; and they will all take upon themselves the yoke of Your kingdom. May You soon reign over them forever and ever, for kingship is Yours, and to all eternity You will reign in glory, as it is written in Your Torah: The L-rd will reign forever and ever. And it is said: The L-rd will be King over the entire earth; on that day the L-rd will be One and His Name One.

One Kabbalist site has the following mission statement:

This Sun Blessing Festival will be an opportunity for Bridging of worlds; culturally and traditionally, between non – religious and religious people in the Holy land and world wide. To mingle culturally and learn new alternative ideas and artistic methods. To invite and inspire people from all over the world to partake in a mystical Passover in the most Kabbalah-rich town in the world, which also happens to fall on Easter Sunday. The 2009 Passover, will enhance a Freedom filled community feeling, in where we partake responsibly in renewing our world through our most precious source - the Sun. And together elicit a new chapter in our lives to come, as the sun re-starts its path into a new cycle, we too can recharge our batteries for the next 28 years to come. Co-create a better and more positive future for ourselves and our children, through cooperation, between all faiths, religions, and walks of life, etc. As the sun shines upon all people, we acknowledge our vulnerability and need of the sun’s warmth and rays, as well as the fact that if we let it shine upon us, we can gently rule our lives, just as flowers needs the sun to grow and become beautiful blossoms, we too, can celebrate our beauty and differences under to embrace of the sun.  The world will join in saluting the creation of sun from where ever on the planet, through the internet, video conferences and broadcasting, meditation circles, prayers, sun-dances etc. To give thanks to this irreplaceable source of energy, which we cannot survive without.  Since this year is also the year of "HAKEL" (the year after the shmita year) it is a good idea to focus on the 12 tribes, to unite our tribes ~ a time to gather in our communities.

Burning the chametz

In the northern Israeli city of Safed, an eight-day festival is planned featuring several environmentally and kabbalistically inspired events, including the ceremonial burning of leavened bread on the morning before Passover by concentrating the sun's rays through an optic lens.  They will also be labyrinth building, chanting, having meditation sessions and yoga.

Series of "Masuot" on Mountain Tops, from Safed to Jerusalem.

Starting, as the sun rises on the day of the Birkat HaChama, April 8, 2008, at the Metsudah  in Safed, we plan to create a series of Masuot (old biblical ways of creating "bonfires") on Mountain Tops, from Safed, via Meiron to Jerusalem.

After all, the Birkat Hachama (sun blessing) is derived from the Bible, and is therefore best celebrated from the Holy Land, sending its effect and energy out to the rest of the world, creating a new chapter of relating to each other, almost like friendly smoke signals (as occurred in the Bible, for New moon tribe signaling and as the Native American Indian used for communication between their tribes). Here Israel is sending a sign of PEACE to the world through the blessing of the Sun. source

Kabbalists hope that this will usher in the Messianic Times with the arrival of their Messiah  known to Christians as the Anti-Christ.
Ezekiel 8:16-18: "...behold, at the door of the temple of Jehovah, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of Jehovah, and their faces toward the east; and they were worshipping the sun toward the east. Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen (this), O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have turned again to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose. Therefore will I also deal in wrath; mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity; and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them."

TALMUDIC teachings is the PHARISAISM of Jesus' day.

Matthew 15:6  "... And by this you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition."
Mat 15:9   "But in vain they do worship me, teaching  doctrines the commandments of men."

Titus 1:13-14 "This testimony is true. For this reason reprove them severely so that they may be sound in the faith, not paying attention to Jewish myths and commandments of men who turn away from the truth."

Rev. 2:9 "I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the Synagogue of Satan"
There are groups that are calling this the "birthday of the sun" and many liberal Jewish groups have embraced this blessing as a way of promoting environmentalism

In the United States, 14 Jewish organizations have joined to launch BlessTheSun.org, a Web site with links to various educational materials and ideas for April 8 activities. The site asks users to sign a Covenant of Commitment in which they “pledge to hasten the day of environmental healing, social justice and sustainable living for all.”  “Let us use this extraordinary opportunity to co-create the next cycle by seeking alternative solar energies and a purer environment, recharging ourselves and learning how to honor the earth, our neighbors and ourselves. This is a time to renew, and bring fresh blossoms to our world for the next 28-year cycle.”
The Babylonian Talmud/MISHNAH is comprised principally of the sayings of the rabbis who lived in the first and second centuries. There is very little written before the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D.  That can be explained by the fact that prior to the Babylonian captivity, the Israelites were under a patriarchal system and worshiped God as prescribed by their forefathers and the Scriptures.

During the captivity, those Israelites who were taken captive by Babylonia adopted much of the mysticism and occultism of their captors and mixed it with the belief structure they had at the time. That is when The Talmud came into existence, and following the destruction of the Temple, the opinions of the rabbis began to be written down as "law." These opinions were largely the "traditions" they had gleaned from their captors by mixing God's Law with man's mysticism and occultism.
The Pharisees were a secret order who outwardly appeared to be Orthodox Jews but inwardly were of the occult  mysteries of Babylon (Babylon means confusion). That is why Jesus exposed them as hypocrites; that is having two faces. For in those days a hypocrite was an actor who played different roles by putting on different clothes to cover up his true identity. It would have been totally out of character and wrong of Jesus to call them “serpents” and their father “the devil”, if behind those religious robes they were not secret members of the Mystery Babylon kingdom of darkness.  Today the  Talmud teaches Rabbis to oppose and discredit the teachings of Jesus because he criticized the Pharisees.
