Iran's President Proposes EU Style Common Currency For 400 Million People Living In 10 Member States Of The Economic Cooperation Organization
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has proposed creating a single currency for the 10-member nations of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) as a way to deal with the growing global financial crisis.
Ahmadinejad made the suggestion at the 10th ECO summit in Tehran, which met Wednesday. He is serving a turn as the rotating president of ECO now, having taken over the role at the beginning of the meeting from his Azerbaijan counterpart.
He, and other ECO member nation heads favor developing a single currency that would be used among the ECO member nations in exchanges among those states and with their neighboring countries. They also proposed developing a joint trade bank. Both measures would help ECO member nations in the current global economic downturn. more

U.S. To Help Rebuild City Of Babylon In Iraq
Largely overlooked by the Western news media over the past few weeks was an enormously significant story. The government of Iraq is moving forward with plans to protect the archaeological remains of the ancient City of Babylon, in preparation for building a modern city of Babylon. The project, originally started by the late Saddam Hussein, is aimed eventually at attracting scores of “cultural tourists” from all over the world to see the glories of Mesopotamia’s most famous city. What’s more, the Obama Administration is contributing $700,000 towards “The Future of Babylon Project,” through the State Department’s budget. more

A rare half shekel coin, first minted in 66 or 67 C.E., was discovered by 14 year-old Omri Ya'ari as volunteers sifted through mounds of dirt from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The coin is the first one found to originate from the Temple Mount.more
Herod family sarcophagi uncovered
A year and a half after the discovery of the tomb of King Herod on the Judean Desert hilltop known as Herodion, an Israeli archaeologist said Wednesday that ongoing excavation at the site has uncovered two additional sarcophagi which likely belonged to members of Herod's family. more

The International Cultures Foundation was jointly founded by HRH Prince El-Hassan Bin Talal of Jordan, President of the Club of Rome, and Professor Ihsan Dogramaci, President of the Hacettepe University Foundation and President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bilkent University in Turkey.
The Foundation was established on July 8, 2002, and it was agreed that Turkey, especially Istanbul, was the appropriate site for such an institution as a crossroads of cultures and the cradle of many civilizations throughout history.
The formalities of establishment of the Foundation have been completed at all levels in Turkey, including a decision of the Directorate General of Foundations attached to the Prime Minister’s Office and a decree of the Council of Ministers.
The purpose of the Foundation is to promote understanding among different cultures in the world and to enhance dialogue between their thinkers and intellectuals. It carries out its functions through the Parliament of Cultures. more
