As with hurricanes Andrew and Katrina, if Igor or Julia cause any damage in the USA, a group of believers will line up to declare this disaster the result of our dealings with Israel.

These believers base their conclusions on the biblical promise "I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee".

The word bless is bârak in Hebrew and has the following
definition.

H1288
בּרך
bârak
BDB Definition:
1) to bless, kneel
1a) (Qal)
1a1) to kneel
1a2) to bless
1b) (Niphal) to be blessed, bless oneself
1c) (Piel) to bless
1d) (Pual) to be blessed, be adored
1e) (Hiphil) to cause to kneel
1f) (Hithpael) to bless oneself
2) (TWOT) to praise, salute, curse
Part of Speech: verb
A Related Word by BDB/Strong’s Number: a primitive root
Same Word by TWOT Number: 285

Note, the word bless appears twice in this promise. And there are two possible definitions for "bless".

If we interpret "bless" according to the definition kneel, then this verse says if we kneel to Israel then God will kneel to us. That doesn't fit the totality of scripture. The alternate definition would allow that if we praise (salute) Israel as God's favored nation, God will reciprocate by favoring our nation. There is no demand that we agree with every decision or action that Israel takes to avoid being cursed.

Scripture teaches the curse is not only conditioned upon our interaction with Israel, but also on Israel's
interaction with God.

Exo 23:22 But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.

In order to become a victim of this curse a nation must deny Israel as God's chosen nation and Israel must be walking in obedience to God.

Unless the USA issues a statement that Israel is not God's
chosen nation AND unless Israel places her faith in God's provision instead of man's treaties no disaster we experience is the fulfillment of the promised blessing or curse.

Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

This verse suggests a reciprocal judgment takes placed. The treatment we provide Israel is returned to us in kind. Jesus taught of such a judgment.

Mat 7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

This doesn't mean if we fail to back Israel on some point God will send a hurricane's destruction. An example of reciprocal judgment would be something like, if we cut off arms sales to Israel God might lessen our military capabilities.

Jesus warned against trying to tie a specific disaster to a particular group of people without a specfic prophecy being involved.

Luk 13:1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
Luk 13:2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
Luk 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Luk 13:4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
Luk 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

God's ways are above our own logic. We must be careful when claiming the fulfillment of prophecy because our witness is effected when we do.
